Littoral Drawings, 1998 - 2000

Large-scale drawings traced from projected images of rocks on the Brittany coast, and lines left by the tide on the Long Island Sound.  Crucial to this work is the process of marking — relating the inscription of pencil on paper to the traces the waves leave in sand as a recording of time, the experience of a place as a changing sequence of moments.  The element of layering, combined with shape and line, creates compositions that evoke the tension between stillness and movement.

Material: Graphite, acrylic, charcoal on paper
